ANNA — The Shawnee Hill Arts Council, along with the Anna Arts Center, is offering a five-show subscription theater series for the Illinois Bicentennial.

The series will focus on Illinois playwrights and their new plays.

Three plays will premier at the center as part of the series: "Assumptions" by Carbondale playwright Steve Falcone, "Scenes from Pooh" and "Poets on Parade" by Lynn Steveson. "Poets on Parade" features poetry by eight Illinois poets.

The series will also feature productions of "Monty Python's Spamalot" and "The Rhythm of Battle, the Rhyme of War," which is a historical review of the music, stories and poetry of World War I.

A subscription for all five shows costs $50, and $16 for children 12 and younger. Individual tickets are $15 each and $5 for children 12 and younger.

Here's the schedule for the five productions:

  • "Assumptions": Feb. 22 to 25
  • "Scenes from Pooh": April 26 to 29; 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The April 29 show also features a meet the playwright event after the play.
  • "Poets on Parade": Sept. 7 to 9; 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The Sept. 9 show also features a meet the playwright event after the play.
  • "Monty Python's Spamalot": Oct. 19, 21 and 22: 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
  • "The Rhythm of Battle, the Rhyme of War": Nov. 9 to 11; 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m. Sunday.
