Cristaudo's is celebrating the exhibition of photography by emeritus associate professor Robert Swenson, which has been hanging in the cafe and bakery for the past month.
The exhibit continues through January. Cristaudo's will host a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.
Swenson, who taught in the Southern Illinois University School of Architecture, took a series of photos in 1966 in New York City, focusing on the Herald Square Subway Station, for a research and design project while he was a graduate student at the Yale School of Architecture.
Swenson spent 24 hours in the spring of 1966 photographing signage, movement, personal needs, materials, surfaces, lighting and architectural and personal space in the Herald Square Station, as well as other spaces in the New York subway system. He took over 100 photos, many of which had not been printed.
This is the first time many of the photos are being seen printed at this size, Swenson said in a news release.
Cristaudo's is at 209 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale.
