Guest artist Julie-Ann Scott will perform "Hyper-Embodied Storytelling: Embracing Mortality in Daily Performance" at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Marion Kleinau Theater on the SIU Carbondale campus.
Scott, who wrote the piece, will share her research in a performance that uses personal stories of disabled embodiment to illuminate the visceral and collaborative nature of autoethnographic storytelling, according to a news release. The performance will show how personal narrative can embrace, rather than fear, the mortality of our bodies and use it to pursue empathic connection with others in a search for social justice.
The Marion Kleinau Theater is in the SIU Carbondale Communications Building. Admission is free.
