Official Halloween may be back in Carbondale this year, with the city hosting a festival the last weekend in October, but Unofficial Halloween is still happening this year, as well.

The Unofficial Halloween tradition cropped up when a previous Carbondale City Council imposed bans on keg sales and forced some downtown bars to close over Halloween weekend in response to raucous parties that got out of control. Thus, Unofficial was for years the weekend college students and revelers had their Halloween fun, typically at least a week before Oct. 31.

This year, Pinch Penny Pub is hosting festivities over this weekend, Oct. 12 and 13.

The bar will have drink specials and giveaways, and live entertainment by Power 102 Jamz's DJ Aron on Friday night and country band Feduin' Hillbillies on Saturday.
