Dolly Parton Statue Proposed For Grounds Of Tennessee Capitol

It's been proposed that a statue of Dolly Parton should be erected on the grounds of the Tennessee Capitol. The creation and installation of the statue would be funded by “gifts, grants, and other donations” and not by the state. In June of last year, an online petition was filed suggesting that a statue of the singer replace statues of Confederate officers. History should not be forgotten, but we need not glamorize those who do not deserve our praise. Instead, let us honor a true Tennessee hero, Dolly Parton, reads the online petition. The petition currently has over 25,000 signatures. Parton recently made a $1 million donation to Vanderbilt University's coronavirus research. This donation helped Moderna develop a vaccine that is said to be nearly 95% effective

If it's commissioned, the sculpture will face the historic Ryman Auditorium, a music venue where Dolly Parton has played throughout her career.
