The John A. Logan College community band is set to perform its annual fall concert this weekend.
The performance is at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the JALC Conference Center.
The band is directed by Michael Hanes, the emeritus director of bands for Southern Illinois University. Fifty musicians from throughout Southern Illinois make up the community band.
The program includes overtures by Alfred Reed, a 100th birthday tribute to Leonard Bernstein, three marches (including one by the famous John Philip Sousa), and a new work by Robert Sheldon that was inspired by the music of Richard Strauss.
The orchestra also will play. It is directed by Bob Swearingen, and includes string, wind and percussion players from around Southern Illinois. They will play a work by Schubert, as well as a track from "Star Trek: The Next Generation," and some popular contemporary pieces.
It is free to attend.
