CARBONDALE — A talented group of high school students has formed a funk, soul and rock band that has rapidly gained regional fans of all ages.

Lucas Feather and the Underclassmen, all students at Carbondale Community High School, will take the stage in The East Room at The Varsity in January.

Lucas Feather teamed up with Berget Borowitz, Drake Martin and David McEathron during the 2016-17 school year. They decided to enter the CCHS talent show that year, where they had the crowd on their feet. After the win, they decided to keep at it and share their energetic and talented efforts with music fans across Southern Illinois.

Once Lucas headed to college at Ole Miss, the remaining members knew they needed to add people to keep making the music happen. Jillian Meredith joined the group, and Aron Taylor soon followed. They have been playing at wineries and breweries, but the show at The Varsity will include Lucas, who is home for winter break.

The lineup consists of Lucas on alto sax, Berget on percussion and vocals, Drake on bass, David on keyboards and vocals, Jillian on trumpet and background vocals, and Aron on tenor sax.

Catch this up-and-coming, energetic band at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. They are available in advance online only at thevarsitycenter.eventbrite.com. They also will be available at 6:45, when the doors and bar open.

The Varsity Center is downtown, at 418 S. Illinois Ave. For more information on The Varsity, go to www.facebook.com/varsitycenter. Check out the band at www.facebook.com/lfatuc.
