Cairo Junior-Senior High School has selected Faith Diel, Shakaela Jangjirawat and Lorenzo Nelson II for honors in academics and leadership.

Diel, 17, is an advanced honor class member in the Honors Escrow Program at Shawnee Community College and a member of National Beta Club and National Honor Society.

The daughter of Tonya and Virgil Diel of Cairo, she plans to study elementary and secondary education at Shawnee Community College.

Jangjirawat, 17, is valedictorian for the Class of 2016, an advanced honor class member in the Honors Escrow Program at Shawnee Community College and volleyball team captain. She is a member of National Beta Club and National Honor Society.

The daughter of Shataka and Vichai Jangjirawat of Cairo, she plans to major in nursing at SIUC.

Nelson, 18, is salutatorian of the Class of 2016 and an advanced honor class member in the Honors Escrow Program at Shawnee Community College. He is a member of National Honor Society, National Beta Club and Phi Theta Kappa.

The son of Serina and Lorenzo Nelson Sr. of Cairo, he plans to study engineering at SIUE.

Commencement will be at 10 a.m. May 10 at the high school.
