Chester High School has recognized Jacklyn Colvis, Lucas Doiron, Noah Franklin, Elizabeth Heffernan, Alyssa Hoops and Alexzandrea Westbrook for academic excellence.

Colvis, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar and Elks Student of the Month. She is a member of National Honor Society, SADD, student council and class vice president.

The daughter of Chris and Lynette Colvis of Chester, she plans to study nutritional science at University of Missouri in Columbia.

Doiron, 18, is an Illinois Student Assistance Commission State Scholar; received Elk’s Student of the Month, Regional Office of Education Student Leadership Award, and Daughters of the American Revolution Most Valuable Student Award. He is a member of National Honor Society, Scholar Bowl, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering team, BUZZ newscast, STiNG newspaper, Students Against Destructive Decisions, CHS Drama Department, swing choir, track and field, cross country, basketball, golf and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

 The son of Derek and Karen Doiron of Chester, he plans to study engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Franklin, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, National Honor Society president, student council president, and Scholar Bowl captain. He is a member of National Honor Society, student council, Peer Mentors, Spirit Squad, varsity baseball, and a Chester Area Food Pantry volunteer.

The son of Debra and Michael Franklin of Chester, he plans to study chemistry - pre-dental, at Murray State University.

Heffernan, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar and University of Illinois Chancellor’s Scholar, Lewis Ellis Scholarship recipient, National Merit Scholar Commended Student, and September 2015 Elks Student of the Month and was accepted in University of Illinois College of Business honors program. She is a member of National Honor Society, Scholar Bowl, All-American Cheerleading Squad, Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association, Senior Scholar and Peer Mentoring. She received eighth for biology in WYSE; Excellence in Accounting; Excellence in Journalism; Outstanding Leadership; Outstanding Vocalist 2014, Outstanding Characterization 2013-15, State-Qualifying Journalist 2013-15, certificate of academic achievement, most spirited cheerleader and homecoming queen. She is student council vice president, cheerleading captain, Chester Swim Team coach, STiNG newspaper editor, BUZZ newscast anchor, Relay for Life planning committee head, Sports For a Cure Breast Cancer Games coordinator, ‘Mean Stinks’ Anti-Bullying Campaign coordinator and Students Against Destructive Decisions secretary peer mentoring, and a member of cross country, track and field, yearbook, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The daughter of Michael and Joan Heffernan of Chester, she plans to study accounting at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Hoops, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar and Elk’s Student of the Month and received a Regents Scholarship from SEMO. She is a National Honor Society treasurer, student council social chair, dance team captain and a member of SADD and spirit squad.

The daughter of Royce and Shelly Hoops of Chester, she plans to major nursing at Southeast Missouri University.

Westbrook, 18, achieved four-year perfect attendance, received Elk Student of the month of November, Director’s Award, Outstanding Characterization. She is a National Honor Society president; a member of Drama Department, Scholar Bowl, band, choir, Life Jackets, SADD, yearbook and WYSE.

The daughter of Christina Lohman and Late Karl Westbrook, she plans to study business management at Southwestern Illinois College.

Commencement will be at 3 p.m. May 29, in the Chester High School Colbert Gymnasium.
