Crab Orchard High School has recognized Emily Mausey, Lauren Pavelonis, Stephanie Scholz, Hailey Sumner, Landon Svoboda and Bethany Throgmorton for academic excellence.

Mausey, 17, is the recipient of an Illinois Farm Credit Scholarship. She is Future Farmers of America chapter president 2015 to 2016; a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, Future Career and Community Leaders of America, cheerleading, student council, math team and class president.

The daughter of Mike and Sue Mausey, and Kelly Clark of Creal Springs, she plans to study education at Murray State University.

Pavelonis, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar. She is Beta Club president and FCCLA secretary; a member of FFA and FCA, and cheerleading,

The daughter of Angie Isaacs and Britt Pavelonis of Marion, she plans to study chemical engineering at University of Kentucky.

Scholz, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, placed first in physics for WYSE Regionals, was named Most Versatile Student, and is a John A. Logan College Academic Scholarship recipient. She is Strategic Studies and FCA president, and a member of Beta Club, Scholar Bowl and media club.

The daughter of Dennis and Michelle Sourbis of Stonefort, she plans to study actuarial science at John A. Logan College.

Sumner, 18, was chosen for academic excellence. She is a member of Beta Club, math club FFA, FCCLA, student officer, math team, volleyball, cheerleading and FCA.

The daughter of Heather Delcambre and Doug Sumner of Marion, she plans to study criminal justice at John A. Logan College

Svoboda, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar and Southeast Missouri State University Regents Scholarship recipient. He is a member of Beta Club, Strategic Studies Group and Scholar Bowl.

The son of Kevin and Jolene Svoboda of Marion, he plans to study medical laboratory technology at Southeast Missouri State University.

Throgmorton, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, DAR Good Citizen Award recipient, WYSE Gold Medalist in English, and a Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Provost Scholarship recipient. She is FCCLA chapter president, Beta Club chapter secretary, Crab Orchard News Team president and FCA Secretary.

The daughter of Matt and Cindy Throgmorton, she plans to study Secondary English Education at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Commencement will be at 7:30 p.m. May 5 in the high school gymnasium. Valedictorian is Landon Svoboda. Salutatorian is Stephanie Scholz.
