Johnston City High School ohnston City High School has recognized Kendall Baker, Mikayla Cain, Nicolle Grant, Randall Grider, Bailee Pulley and Courtney Pyle for academic excellence.
Baker, 18, is VFW Voice of Democracy post and district winner junior and senior years and won individual first place at Math regionals as a junior. She is a member of National Honor Society, ALPHA, student council, cheerleading squad, math team, Health Occupations Students of America, business and pep clubs.
The daughter of Rhonda Baker and Michael Baker of Johnston City she plans to study nursing at Murray State University.
Cain, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar and percussion section leader. She is a member of National Honor Society, student council, choir, journalism, yearbook staff, Winter Guard, theatre and marching, concert and pep bands.
The daughter of Richard and Melissa Cain, and Bettie Cain, of Pittsburg, she plans to study psychology at John A. Logan College.
Grant, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, received John A Logan College Business Competition first in keyboarding section. She is a member of HOSA, business and pep clubs.
The daughter of James Grant of Johnston City, she plans to study nursing.
Grider, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Class 700 Top Scorer and received various music awards. He is a member of National Honor Society, concert, marching and pep bands.
The son of Randy and Christine Grider and Shanna and Bill Hartley of Johnston City, he plans to study music and English.
Pulley, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar and student council president. She is a member of National Honor Society, math team, Scholar Bowl, WYSE, HOSA, business and art clubs, and softball, basketball and volleyball teams.
The daughter of Keven and Traci Stroud and Darin Pulley of West Frankfort, she plans to study sports management at Southern Illinois University.
Pyle, 17, received a Dean's Scholarship at SIU. She is a member of dance, HOSA, math team and pep club.
The daughter of Dawn Edwards and Darren and Amanda Pyle of Johnston City, She plans to study nursing at SIU.
Commencement will be at 7:30 p.m. May 19 in Johnston City Athletic Complex. Valedictorian is Nicolle Grant. Salutatorian is Randall Grider. Baccalaureate will be at 7 p.m. May 18 in Redemption Church.
