2016 Honors: Sparta High School

Sparta High School has recognized Isabelle Hamilton, Serita Long, Payal Patel, Joel Rahlfs and Rachel Wilson for academic excellence.

Hamilton, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, accepted into Pierre Laclede Honors College, received Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award and participated in dual credit classes. She is senior class vice president and homecoming queen candidate, and a member of National Honor Society, student council, LifeSavers Organization, Pawprint School Newspaper, Scholar Bowl, youth group, theater and musicals.

The daughter of John and Jennifer Hamilton of Sparta, she plans to major in social work at University of Missouri at St. Louis.

Long, 18, is Illinois State Scholar and received class achievement awards in language, foods and law enforcement. She is a member of Scholar Bowl, math club, GSA, foods club, science club, Future Business Leaders of America, cheerleading squad and dance team.

The daughter of Shawn and Katy Long of Sparta, she plans to study psychology at Southeast Missouri State University.

Patel, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar and National Merit Scholar and received academic awards in math, science, literature, Spanish and history. She is a member of National Honor Society, math team, science club, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering and FBLA.

The daughter of Vick and Falu Patel of Sparta, she plans to study at St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Rahlfs, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar. He is a member of National Honor Society, science club, math team, FBLA, WYSE and Students Against Drunk Drivers.

The son of Kevin and Sandy Rahlfs of Ellis Grove, he plans to major in computer engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Wilson, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, VFW Voice of Democracy Essay Winner and received individual class achievement awards. She is a member of National Honor Society, student council, band, jazz band, science and Spanish clubs, math team, Scholar Bowl, WYSE and golf and track teams.

The daughter of Andy and Vicky Wilson of Sparta, she plans to study social work at Bradley University.

Commencement will be at 2 p.m. May 22 in Dwight Fulton Gymnasium. Baccalaureate services will be at 7 p.m. May 15 in the gymnasium.
