2016 Honors: Vienna High School

Vienna High School has recognized Miranda Brookshier, Taylor Bundren, Natalie Chambless, Sara Childress, Amanda Ferguson, Shawna Oliver, Ryan Racey and Mary White for academic excellence.

Brookshier, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar, recipient of DAR Good Citizens Award, and received Achievement Awards in English, math and science. She is a member of National Beta Club, Student Government, Scholar Bowl, volleyball, track and field, drama and Spanish clubs, Youth for Christ, Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering and Phi Theta Kappa.

The daughter of Del and Cheryl Brookshier of Vienna, she plans to major in mathematics.

Bundren, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, and received state and national Beta Club Creative Writing and Poetry Awards for six years, and multiple creative writing and poetry awards from Shawnee College for four years. She is a member of Beta Club, school newspaper, Youth for Christ, book and drama clubs, Scholar Bowl, Spanish Club president and editor-in-chief of the school newspaper for two years.

The daughter of Mark and Edna Bundren of Vienna, she plans to study journalism and linguistics at Valparaiso University.

Chambless, 18, achieved high honors and art excellence. She is a member of art and Spanish clubs, Beta Club, Scholar Bowl and Youth for Christ.

The daughter of Jenifer Chambless and Robert Chambless of Simpson, she plans to study animation at Ringling College of Art and Design.

Childress, 17, is an Illinois State Scholar. She is a member of Beta Club, Scholar Bowl, Spanish Club, Drama Club, Pep Club, WYSE, Health Occupation Students of America.

The daughter of Scott and Sandy Childress of Belknap, she plans to major in nursing at Shawnee Community College.

Ferguson, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar and received Awards of Achievement in English, math and Science. She is a member of Beta Club, WYSE, drama and Spanish clubs and Youth for Christ.

The daughter of Joe and Laweda Ferguson of Vienna, she plans to study statistics.

Oliver, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She is a member of WYSE, Globetrotter Travel Club, pep club, Scholar Bowl, school newspaper, drama and Spanish clubs and Youth for Christ,

The daughter of Cary and Michele Oliver of Buncombe, she plans to major in history at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Racey, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar. He is a member of Beta Club and FFA.

The son of Mark and Tracy Racey of Vienna, he plans to study at Shawnee Community College.

White, 18, is an Illinois State Scholar, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Shawnee Community College. She is student council president, FFA secretary and a member of National Beta Club, Spanish and pep clubs, 4-H, softball and football cheer squad.

The daughter of Mary Jane and Noble White of Buncombe, She plans to major in accounting at McKendree University.

Commencement will be at 8 p.m. May 20 in Vienna High School Gymnasium. Valedictorians are Miranda Brookshier, Taylor Bundren, Natalie Chambless, Sara Childress, Amanda Ferguson, Shawna Oliver, Ryan Racey and Mary Kate White. Salutatorian is Brianna Blankenship. Baccalaureate will be at 7 p.m. May 18 in First United Methodist Church.
