Recently, my daughter had the harrowing experience of waking in the night to the screams of a friend yelling, “Get out!” An intruder had broken into the home where they were staying in another country.

By the time my daughter came to her senses, the intruder had fled. As the young ladies assessed what had happened, they discovered some electronic devices and cash had been stolen. Fortunately, neither of them were harmed physically in any way.

The incident brings to mind the words of Jesus when he said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10, ESV). Clearly, we live in a world where bad things happen. One never knows what a day will bring. For this reason, the apostle Peter instructs us with these words saying: "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8, ESV).

What has the evil one stolen from you? He may take our possessions. He may harm our bodies. Yet by God’s grace, the evil one cannot have your soul. When you entrust your soul into the care of Jesus, you are sealed by his spirit and protected by him.

You can have abundant life in Christ right now. It begins the moment you commit your entire being to Jesus as Lord and savior. Indeed, Jesus offers meaningful, hope-filled life to all who trust in him. The bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16, ESV).

The Bible also says, "The reason the son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8, ESV). Don’t sleep while the evil one robs you of life. Throw the evil one out. Ask God to forgive you of all wrong. Confess that you believe that the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is sufficient to pardon your sin and to grant you eternal life. Surrender your will to God now. Commit to follow Jesus. Awaken to the complete and full life you were created to experience.
