2 pounds ground round steak
2 eggs
Bread crumbs
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Cooking oil
2 pounds fresh okra, sliced 1/2-inch thick
1 large white onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 small green bell pepper, chopped
2 ribs celery, chopped
2 medium cans peeled tomatoes
Red pepper, to taste
Make small meatballs from mixture of ground round, eggs, bread crumbs, salt and black pepper. Brown in cooking oil and drain on paper towels. Using drippings, cook okra until tender, stirring often. Add chopped vegetables and saute until soft. Add tomatoes and mix well before adding meat balls. Cook slowly for about 30 minutes, adding hot water as needed to keep meat balls covered. Add pepper. Serve over hot rice. Yield: 6-8 servings.
