URBANA — Urbana officials say a 96-year-old man died in a house fire late Monday.

Fire Marshal Phil Edwards said Tuesday that firefighters were called to the home around 10:45 p.m. The man died after being taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, according to the The (Champaign) News-Gazette.

The home was owned by William Sleator. Hs brother-in-law, Nicholas Temperley, confirmed Sleator died in the fire.

The coroner’s office did not immediately return phone and email messages from The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Urbana firefighters requested mutual aid from the Savoy Fire Department at midnight, after part of the second floor had collapsed onto the first floor.

The fire marshal said nobody else was home at the time of the fire. The fire remains under investigation.
