CAIRO — Two Cairo auxiliary firefighters pleaded guilty to charges of arson Wednesday in Alexander County court.

Alexander County State’s Attorney Jeff Farris said Richard Scott Pitcher, 18, of Cairo and David Patrick, 22, of Arlington, Ky., pleaded guilty to both counts of arson, a Class 2 felony, which could result in a prison sentence of 3 to 14 years and a fine of up to $25,000.

The two men were set for jury trial May 8 before Judge Charles Cavaness.

Patrick’s sentencing date is set for June 13; Pitcher’s is June 20.

Police said Patrick and Pitcher set fire to a storage facility adjacent to 33rd street and the Mississippi River levee, owned by Abdul J. “Robert” Baba, on Jan. 22, 2011.

Another fire occurred April 16, 2011, to a residence on Illinois 37 and owned by Kenneth Maupin.
