The annual Lights Fantastic Parade is returning to Carbondale on Saturday, Dec. 1.
The parade starts at 6 p.m. on South Illinois Avenue at Mill Street, and travels north on Illinois Avenue, around Town Square on Jackson and Washington streets, to Main Street, where it ends.
Road closures and detours start at 5 p.m. and reopen about 8 p.m. Parts of Main and Walnut streets and Illinois Avenue will be closed during that time, and detours will be marked. Anyone planning to attend the parade is asking to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion when closures go into effect.
There will be a shuttle from Murdale Shopping Center and University Mall to the downtown parade route. Shuttle rides are every 15 minutes from 4 to 6 p.m. and will return passengers to parking areas after the parade.
