At 9:29 p.m. on Tuesday, the City of Carbondale Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of the 500 block of South Wall Street in reference to a report of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that a vehicle was traveling northbound in the 500 block of South Wall Street when it struck a man as he attempted to cross the street on foot.

The man, whose name is not being released at this time, was transported by Jackson County Ambulance to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for life-threatening injuries. He was later flown out to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri for further treatment.

The vehicle’s driver was not injured in the crash. Any possible charges will be pending the outcome of the investigation.
