An two-vehicle crash Monday at the intersection of Illinois 13 and Division Street in Carterville sent four people to hospitals.

A silver Toyota van driven by Rita Hindman, 68, of Marion went through a red light and crashed into a white Dodge van occupied by David, 65, and Betty Beckman, 63, of Carterville. The Beckmans were turning northbound onto Division Street when they were struck.

The Beckmans had to be extracted from the vehicle and were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Betty was later transported to a St. Louis hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

Rita Hindman and her husband, Mickey, 70, were taken to Herrin Hospital. Mickey was later transferred to a St. Louis hospital and his condition is unknown.

Rita Hindman was issued citations for disobeying a traffic control device and failure to yield at an intersection. The accident remains under investigation by the Carterville Police Department and the Williamson County Sheriff's Office.
