Carterville is expected to have some water service restored by the end of the day, according to a statement from Carterville Police.

According to a Nixle alert from Carterville Police Department, the Rend Lake Conservancy District notified the city that water service will be partially restored by the end of the day. When water is restored, Carterville will be under a boil water order.

Officials at Rend Lake Conservancy District were working to install a bypass at Inter-City Water Plant to restore some water, but were not expecting any water to be restored before 7 p.m. Thursday.

Carterville had earlier run out of water after a pipe broke at Rend Lake Conservancy District's Inter-City Water Plant. The break affected many Southern Illinois communities; the district serves communities in seven counties.

Carterville schools closed Thursday at 11:15 because the city was out of water.
