A man in a wheelchair suffered minor injuries after being hit by car in Du Quoin Tuesday.
According to a news release from the Illinois State Police District 13, Mikel V. Wolfe, 58, of Du Quoin, was driving his powered wheelchair eastbound on the southern sidewalk next to East Main Street in Du Quoin when he was hit by a 2004 Ford E250 driven Charles N. Genesio II, 53, of Du Quoin. Genesio was travelling eastbound on East Main and turning right onto South Oak Street.
The Ford had already entered the intersection, the report said, and was proceeding past the end of the sidewalk Wolfe was traveling on when the crash occurred.
According to the release, Wolfe has a medical condition that prevented him from clearly seeing the Ford and he struck the middle of the passenger’s side of the Ford.
Wolfe was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries. Genesio was uninjured.
