MARION — After four years in Marion's Illinois Star Centre mall, Joe’s Records is making a change.
Company co-owner Josh Stockinger said while business has been robust since the beginning — he said sales grew exponentially each year for the first three years — the store wants to be more visible.
So the store will moving out of the mall and move next to Rural King off of Illinois 13 in Marion at the end of the month. The store will also change its name to Hard Copies to be more consistent with the other locations throughout the regions, including Carbondale.
Stockinger said they will be out of their mall location by Jan. 31 and hope to be open in their new location not long thereafter — he said he will nail down a firm opening date in the next two weeks. He said they gave mall officials one month's notice.
Stockinger declined to comment on whether the current climate in at the Marion mall are part of what prompted their decision to leave. He said there are good people running good shops in the mall and he hopes customers will still come in and support them.
“We wish them nothing but the best,” he said.
The new location will be about the same size as the current store and will have the same type of inventory.
