MURPHYSBORO — Molly's Pint, Murphysboro's first brew pub, has its licensing in place and is planning a grand opening sometime in April.

The brewpub just received its state liquor license on Wednesday, according to Molly Blew, co-owner of Molly's Pint.

The bar is located at 12 N. 13th St., and is open for business.

In August 2016, the Murphysboro City Council voted to create a new ordinance, the Class P liquor license designation, to cover the brewpubs.

A brewpub is an establishment that brews its own beer and serves it to customers, said Terry Horstman, a spokesman for the Illinois Liquor Control Commission. He said there are 94 brewpubs in the state.

Pomona's Abbey Ridge Brewery, which was severely damaged by a fire on Feb. 1, was licensed as a brewpub by the State of Illinois, but as a microbrewery with a restaurant by Jackson County, according to one of its co-owners, Terri Addison.
