Organizers of the Murphysboro Apple Festival first Obstacle Run are donating $1,000 to the Murphysboro Park District for allowing it to use the park.

Lance Liggett, one of three co-chairs of the Big Muddy Obstacle Run, said he and Apple Festival board member Jim Murphy presented the check to Park District officials Thursday.

The donations are from entries from the race.

Liggett and organizers created the obstacle course in part of Riverside Park for the inaugural Obstacle Race, which attracted 150 participants.

He said organizers plan to bring the event back to the 2018 Murphysboro Apple Festival, set for Sept. 12-15. His co-chairs are Brandon Merano and Aaron Webb.
