Firefighters found a West Frankfort woman dead after a Pershing house fire Tuesday night.
At approximately 8:48 p.m. Tuesday, the West Frankfort Fire Department received a call about a residential fire on Gas Street in the Pershing area, the department said in a release on its Facebook page. According to a news release, firefighters arrived to find the house completely consumed by fire. Area fire departments arrived to assist in controlling the blaze.
Franklin County Coroner Marty Lefler confirmed that 59-year-old Gay Vaughn of West Frankfort died in the fire. According to the release, she was confirmed dead at 10:41 p.m. Tuesday. The cause of death has not yet been released.
No one else was home at the time of the fire. The state fire marshal is investigating. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
