A Benton man was sentenced to 31 years in prison on Tuesday on a charge of attempted first-degree murder.
According to a news release from Franklin County state's attorney Evan Owens, Alan W. Bennett, 48, received the 31-year sentence plus three years of mandatory supervised release following his release. Bennett will serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, according to the release.
Benton Police Department handled the investigation.
According to earlier reporting in The Southern, on May 28, Bennett allegedly shot a 40-year-old female relative in her Benton home. He evaded authorities until he was arrested Sept. 13 after Franklin County sheriff's deputies found him hiding in a bedroom in a rural Benton home after they responded to a report of a break-in.
