A Carbondale man was sentenced Monday to five years in prison for drug charges, according to Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael Carr.

Joseph Gavin Weber, 22, pleaded guilty to the charge of controlled substance trafficking, a Class 2 felony. His sentence will be followed by two years of mandatory supervised release.

On Feb. 8, officers with the Carbondale Police Department received information from a U.S. Postal Inspector from St. Louis about two parcels on the way to Carbondale. The two packages were opened after a search warrant and contained more than 5,700 pills of Xanax.

A controlled delivery of the packages was made to a resident in Carbondale. Weber acknowledged he is the person who ordered the pills from Canada.
