Police in Carbondale are looking for a suspect who they say broke into a home early Monday and attempted to sexually assault a woman who was inside.

According to a news release from Carbondale Police Department, officers responded at 2:07 a.m. Monday to the 400 block of West Freeman Street in reference to a trespass to a residence and attempted sexual assault. The release states a suspect unlawfully entered the residence with his face covered and took actions to lead the victim to believe she was going to be sexually assaulted.

The suspect is described as a black male, six feet tall with a heavy-set build and light brown eyes, wearing dark gray sweatpants, a gray fleece hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask with an SIU logo covering his face. The suspect is described as having a unique accent, according to the release.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries, police said.
