CARBONDALE — A shooting in downtown Carbondale on Friday evening resulted in multiple injuries.

Police scanner traffic reported the call just after 10 p.m. for the incident, which occurred in the 100 block of North Washington Street. It noted at least two people had been hit with gunfire, with possibly more injuries as well.

On the scene, police tape covered most of the east side of the block. A black SUV sat in the alley between the ABC Liquor Mart and Tres Hombres, with broken glass on the pavement beneath it.

Carbondale Police said an investigation was underway and more information would be forthcoming, but were blocking off that portion of the street. They confirmed that a shooting had occurred, with multiple victims being transported to the hospital via ambulance. Numerous police and emergency vehicles were present on the scene, and the Carbondale Fire Department was called to provide extra lighting to assist in the investigation.

Eyewitnesses on the scene reported hearing multiple gunshots, and that a man in a gray hoodie with black pants was seen running away from the scene after the shooting.
