A Herrin man was sentenced to four years in state prison on Monday after he pleaded guilty to a Class 4 felony charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

According to a news release from Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti, Jonathan Pendall, 29, will also serve a year of mandatory supervised release after he serves his prison term.

The release states that Pendall's charges stem from a 2014 drug investigation by the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group. Pendall is currently serving a sentence out of Franklin County for theft and meth possession.

Pendall has a criminal history, including a residential burglary conviction out of Sangamon County.
