West Frankfort police are investigating after a body was found behind Logan Street Liquors Thursday.

West Frankfort Police Chief John Prudent said on Friday that a call came in around 3 p.m. Thursday reporting that an employee of the liquor store had found the body of a white male in a small wooded area behind the business.

Prudent said Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler took possession of the body and that the Illinois State Police processed the scene.

Prudent told The Southern that, at the time, his department did not believe foul play to be involved, but that a final determination would be made after a Friday autopsy.

Prudent said the body has been identified but that the name is being withheld until Leffler is able to contact family.
