The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was contacted after the Williamson County Sheriff on Tuesday morning investigated a call reporting a 3-year-old child without clothing running in an open field near Cambria.

According to a news release from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, the call came in around 7 a.m., and the caller said he or she had temporarily placed the child in his or her vehicle to provide shelter from the weather. Around that time, according to the National Weather Service, it was 48 degrees and overcast in Williamson County.

Sheriff's deputies, along with Cambria Police and Cambria Ambulance, were dispatched. The child was not physically harmed, according to the release.

The parents were located at their home, which was not far from the field where the child was found. The parents were unaware their child had left the residence, the release says.

DCFS was contacted; they interviewed the parents and other children in the home and took steps to ensure the future safety of the children while their investigation continues, according to the release.
