Strike continues

Murphysboro teachers hung red ribbons on trees and light poles around town on Wednesday.

The Murphysboro teachers’ strike ended late Wednesday night, according to a post on the Murphysboro Teachers and Murphysboro CUSD 186 Facebook pages. Email messages sent shortly after the posts to parents confirmed that news.

Both posts say that school will be back in session Thursday.

“We are ecstatic to know we will be back in our classrooms with our students tomorrow," said MEA Chief Negotiator Caitlin Langellier in a provided statement. "Our students will always be our first priority. We are pleased we’ve finally reached a tentative agreement that puts our students first. We hope the board will do the same on Tuesday. Until then, we will not be releasing any details about the specifics of our tentative contract. Thank you to the community and to our District 186 support staff for standing by our sides during this tremendously trying time. We could not have done this without you. We look forward seeing you all tomorrow.”

Details of the deal were not available Wednesday.
