Joshua McCain, an attorney based in Benton, will run for Alexander County State’s Attorney.
McCain, who is an Olive Branch-native and graduated from Southern Illinois University, announced his candidacy for the county’s chief prosecutor on Friday.
“I have the experience, drive, and enthusiasm to be an effective State’s Attorney,” he said in a news release. “My roots in this county combined with my legal background make me well suited to represent our citizens as State’s Attorney.”
McCain, who currently works for Drew & Drew, a private practice in Benton, will run as a Democrat and has represented clients in Illinois’ circuit, appellate and federal courts. He got his law degree at the University of Mississippi School of Law and later served as a district attorney in Oxford, Mississippi.
“I deeply believe in the reasonable application of the law. Each case will be different in its own way and will require intelligence, care and compassion to reach a just outcome,” McCain said. “I will not tolerate violent crime or crimes that could result in violent outcomes and I will work tirelessly to make our residents feel safe in their own communities.”
