ELKVILLE — More local groups and businesses are stepping up to help victims of the Feb. 28 tornadoes.

Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurants in Missouri and Illinois will participate in a “Buy One, Give $1” fundraiser Sunday, March 12, to provide assistance to the victims of the recent tornadoes in Missouri and Illinois.

For each entree or buffet sold that day, participating Ponderosa Steakhouses will donate $1 to American Red Cross tornado relief efforts, with the funds going directly to aid tornado victims served by the Southeast Missouri and the South Central Illinois chapters. Together with support from Homestyle Dining, the restaurant brand’s parent company, participating locations hope to raise as much as $5,000.

Participating Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurants will include: Harrisburg at 507 N. Commercial; Perryville at 1301 S. Perryville Road; Arnold and Washington, Missouri; and Jacksonville and Vandalia.

Carbondale Community High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a Zumbathon to raise money for Southern Illinois families that were impacted by the Feb. 28 tornadoes. The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 8 in the CCHS gymnasium. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students.

Multiple Zumba instructors will lead the event, and childcare will be available for moms who want to come but need a place for their children.

The event will include door prizes and giveaways, as well as a donation station for people who would like to donate money or canned goods to the families.
