CHICAGO — Former NBA star Isiah Thomas has helped dedicate a street in west Chicago to his mother.
At a ceremony on Saturday Thomas said he was touched by the tribute to his late mother, Mary Thomas.
WLS-TV reports that Thomas recalled learning important life lessons from his mother, including that you should help other people when you can.
Alderman Jason Ervin wrote the ordinance to rename Homan Avenue. He says Mary Thomas was a standout example of a single mother laboring to give her children better lives.
The street dedication was one of several events Thomas was taking part in this weekend on the city's West Side.
