The Gathering of the Juggalos will not return to Southern Illinois this year, organizers say.

Instead, The Gathering and the 10,000 fans who attend the five-day event are headed to Kaiser, Mo. The event, entering its 15th year, has been held at Hogrock Campgrounds at Cave-In-Rock since 2007.

The announcement was made Friday in an online newsletter managed by Psychopathic Records, the Michigan-based company that produces The Gathering under its subsidiary, Juggalo Gathering Inc.

“It’s got the same level of intimacy we enjoyed at Hogrock for all those years but this campground also has plenty of flavor Hogrock didn’t have, including cell phone reception, nearby hotels, nearby stores, actual (expletive) civilization,” the announcement stated.

Neither officials in Hardin County nor Cave-In-Rock could be reached Wednesday.

The change in venue comes on the heels of complaints by vendors who said in November that they had either not been paid or had received bad checks in excess of a combined $300,000.

One of those checks was written to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office as a $5,000 donation for new equipment.

Psychopathic Records vowed at the time they would make good on their bills. Cost overruns were blamed.

The Gathering brought with it a mixed bag of economic stimulus but also illicit drug use and some violent crimes. Deaths at the gathering have included a drowning, heat stroke and overdose.

This year’s event is planned for Aug. 6-9 at what the promoters are calling Harlequin Park. Kaiser is located near Lake of The Ozarks State Park in central Missouri.

Attempts to reach a county or Kaiser official were unsuccessful.
