Today marks the 91st anniversary of the deadliest tornado recorded in U.S. history. The Tri-State tornado, as it came to be known, left hundreds dead and thousands injured across Illinois, Indiana and Missouri. 

In this area, a tornado tore a diagonal path of destruction across Southern Illinois on March 18, 1925. It flattened much of the towns of Gorham, Murphysboro, De Soto, Bush, West Frankort and Parish, and affected other communities as well.
