ELKVILLE — Alma Griffith, 89, of Elkville, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
She was born April 24, 1930, to Edgar and Bertha (Hurley) Gower in Carterville.
On April 19, 1996, Alma married Alvin R. Griffith. They shared 23 years of making wonderful memories.
She was a homemaker and a professional seamstress. She had worked at Good Luck Glove Factory in Carbondale. She loved to quilt.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Elkville.
Alma is survived by her husband, Alvin, of Elkville; a son, Mark Hill (Valerie Hesslink) of Madison, Wisconsin; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Hill of Clearwater, Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives; a special caregiver, Debi Rice of Elkville; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Marvin Hill Jr.; sisters, Vera Freeman, Anna Gower and her twin sister, Velma Gower; and brothers, Bill, Bob, Richard and Odell Gower.
Funeral services for Alma Griffith will be Thursday, May 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Elkville, with the Rev. Scott Slone officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
