CARTERVILLE — Bobby Garrell Church, 65, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, in Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, in Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Revs. Matt Caraway and R.H. Chitwood officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery with military rites by the 3rd Battalion 23rd Marine Regiment Inspector Instructor Staff. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, Feb. 3, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Bobby was born Feb. 21, 1951, in Carbondale, to Robert Lee and Evadean (Hall) Church.

He married Sherry Louise Reeves on Sept. 1, 2001, in Carterville. She preceded him in death Aug. 26, 2013.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Karee Church of West Frankfort; stepsons, Rob and Amy Ellis of Marble Falls, Texas and Zack Ellis of Lakeway, Texas; grandchildren, Garrett and Griffen Church and Alexandra and Austin Ellis; mother, Evadean Church of Cambria; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marsha and Tom McGuire of Carterville, Donnetta and Hector Pacheco of Houston and Lynette and Steve Marble of Waseca, Minnesota; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robbie and Linda Church, Dee and Linda Church and Jeff and Melodie Church, all of Carterville, Randy and Patricia Church of Nixa, Missouri, Lyndell Church of Cambria, and James and Jill Church of Bartlett, Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father.

He honorably served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving overseas in Vietnam. Bobby retired after 30 years of service in the Corps with multiple medals and accolades.

Following his career in the military, Bobby worked in the maintenance department at Southern Illinois University, retiring after 10 years.

Bobby was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Herrin.

He loved to watch his "grandkids" play ball.
