CARBONDALE — Colleen Brown, 84, went to be with our Lord at 11:53 p.m. March 6, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy illness.

Colleen was born Aug. 4, 1934, in rural Williamson County, to Roy Roper and Helen (Chase) Roper.

Her father was a coal miner and her mother a homemaker. She moved with her family to Crab Orchard as a young girl, along with her sister, Imogene (Roper) Graves, where she graduated from high school.

She subsequently married Charlie, her husband of six decades, and raised three children. Colleen loved her family dearly, and spent her life caring and providing for them.

She was a member of The View church in Carbondale, and prior to that, of the First Baptist Church of Carbondale for many years. She will be sorely missed by her family and the many she has touched over the years through her Christian love and service.

Colleen is survived by her husband Charlie B. Brown; her children, Trace (Heidi) B. Brown of Carbondale; Gregg (Stephanie) R. Brown of Austin, Texas; Kelly (John) J. Diehl of St. Louis; grandchildren (Trace and Heidi) Skyler, Adrienne and Chanceler, (Gregg and Stephanie) Patrick (Hannah), Chase, Nicholas (Theresa) and Samuel; and (Kelly and John) Josh and Daniel; sister Imogene Graves; brother-in-law, Charles Lee Ford; nieces, Shirley (William) Butler, Gayla (Keith) Johns, Iris (Don) Miller and Melba (Dwain) Ford; and many other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Samuel Diehl.

Visitation will begin at noon Saturday, March 9, in Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park on Old Illinois 13, west of Carbondale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The View Church in memory of Colleen.
