CAIRO — Dr. William M. “Doc” Kobler Sr., 92, of Cairo, died Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Aperion Care in Cairo.
He was born November 19, 1926 in Cairo, to Benjamin G. and Anita (Tauber) Kobler. He married Carla Jean Myers on Aug. 31, 1947. She preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2006.
“Doc” proudly served his country in WWII in the United States Army. After his discharge, he came home and married the love of his life Carla Jean Myers in 1947. They spent 59 happily married years together.
He graduated from Saint Louis University School of Dentistry in 1955 with the highest honors of his class of 77. He was a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Honor Society of Dentistry.
He was an all-around athlete and loved football, hunting, golf. He was widely known as “The Crappie Doc” at Kentucky Lake. “Doc” was a member of the Mighty Rivers Regional Worship Center, Masonic Lodge and a 63-year Honoree Life Member of the Cairo Elks Lodge 651.
He is survived by his sons William “Bubba” (Debbie) Kobler, of Cairo, and Curt Kobler, of Memphis; grandchildren Kevin Kobler, Chris (Janet) Faulkner, Leslie (Jeremy) Johnson, Will Kobler, Grant Kobler, Reid Kobler and Elizabeth Kobler; great-grandchildren Maddy Johnson, Leah Johnson, Austin Faulkner and Jacob Faulkner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and daughter, Linda Kay Faulkner.
Funeral services for Dr. William M. “Doc” Kobler will be at noon Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Crain Funeral Home in Cairo, with the Rev. Larry Potts officiating. Interment will follow at Mound City National Cemetery with full military honors by the American Legion Post 178 of Villa Ridge and Illinois Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the hour of service on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the funeral home.
