CARBONDALE — Eddith Lee (Osmon) Gee, 85, of Eldorado, formerly of Carbondale, died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at her home in Eldorado.
Eddith was born March 14, 1931, in Tuckerman, Arkansas, to Ruby Marie (Shelton) Osmon and Sherman Osmon.
Eddith grew up in Arkansas and Missouri, working in the cotton fields, picking and hoeing cotton alongside her parents. The oldest of six children, she helped care for her younger siblings. Eddith fondly spoke of her childhood memories of her Grandpa Shelton who lived with the family. She spoke of his love for his vegetable garden and how she enjoyed her long talks with him. He nicknamed her “Toad.”
On June 29, 1946, at the age of 15, she married Marvin Gee. Together they shared 53 years of marriage and raised seven children. Eddith was a loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She loved flowers and enjoyed working outside among her many flower gardens. Her favorite was her “Lily Bed.” Eddith had a love for music and loved to sing. She also had a love for hummingbirds.
Eddith is survived by her children, Leslie Gee, Darrell Gee, Kathy (Richard) Craig, Dawn (Mark) Wessel and Alan Gee; grandchildren, Lisa Wagley, Brian (Nancy) Bayless, Chad Gee, Randy Gee, Misti (David) Rosas, Riki Bayless, Stacey Gee, Kasey (Joe) Raben, Kinzi Loyd, Tracy (Bart) Hagston, April (Scott) Wilmouth, Crystal, Paige and Hunter Gee, John Juhl , Ruby Juhl, Amber Wessel and Carson Gee. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild; one brother, Louis Osmon; one sister, Anna Dobrowalski; her brother-in-law, Gilbert (Nancy) Gee; and several nieces and nephews; and her two loving caretakers and friends, Carol Riley and Connie Stacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her daughter, Ruby Gee; son, Larry Gee; and grandsons Tanner Gee and Keith Travelstead Loyd; two brothers and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association Greater Illinois Chapter 320 E. Walnut St., Suite A Carbondale, IL 62901.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in Unity Baptist Church on the hill in Makanda across from Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda, with the Rev. Ed Krantz officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 29, at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale.
