DU QUOIN — Fay Sisk Fly, 89, of Highland Park, passed away Jan. 30, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William R. Fly in 2008.
Fay was a loving mother to her daughters, Kathryn Fly of Berkeley, California, Alyce Fly of Bloomington, Indiana, and Sarah Fly of Whitehall, Montana, and devoted to her grandchildren, William Fly Wagner (Chicago), Emily Fly Wagner (Cincinnati) and John Fly Wagner (New York). She also leaves behind sister, Sue Wiseman (Ron); brother-in-law, John Thomas Fly (Eunice); additionally numerous nieces and nephews.
Fay was a school teacher for five years, a meticulous homemaker, and a talented artist, excelling at every media she explored, from drawing and painting to quilting and rosemaling. She utilized her creative skills and boundless energy to restore her historic home and transform her yard into continuous gardens with indigenous plant species that promoted important wildlife and vanishing botanical species. She was also an avid reader and loved music and nature. She placed great value on education, life-long learning and ensuing opportunities for her children and grandchildren. Fay will be forever missed.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in Oakland Cemetery, 1100 North Oakland Ave., Carbondale. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
