HERRIN — Hilda Nell Reiger Minter passed away at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2016, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family.
Hilda was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Herrin, to Gomen and Lulla Reiger.
She married Bob D. Minter on July 19, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky. They were married almost 66 years.
Hilda started working at Zwick’s Ladies Store as a bookkeeper assistant, when she was only 16. Later she became secretary and head bookkeeper and remained at Zwick’s for 40 years working for many years with longtime friend Norma Stanley. In 1978 Hilda and Bob moved to California and she worked for Innowave Corp. as executive secretary to the president and CEO of the company.
Upon retirement in 1990 Hilda md Bob moved back to Herrin and started their “retirement.”
Hilda loved her family and enjoyed family dinners with her famous chicken and dumplings and homemade pies and cakes. She passed this love of cooking on to her daughter and grandchildren. Hilda also enjoyed working puzzles, cruising, knitting and always had several pet dogs.
Survivors include daughter, Jean Ellen and husband, Rick, McNeill of Herrin; son, Ron and wife, Jeannie, Minter of Cape Canaveral, Florida; granddaughters, Sheri and husband, Bryan, Williams of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Lori and husband, Mark, Brooks of Waterloo; grandson, Mike and wife, Susie, Minter of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Jean Horn of Pinckneyville; sister-in-law, Ellen Wilson of Belleville; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Braden Williams, Allyson and Dan Padilla, Ryan and Olivia Brooks, Rachel and Michael Minter; and soon her first great-great grandchild, Ava Padilla; a niece, Diane and husband, P K Johnson of Belleville;and a nephew, Greg and wife, Cheryl Horn of East Carondolet.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lulla and Gomen Reiger; mother-in-law, Pearl Minter; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Horn.
Celebration of life will be at a future date.
