MURPHYSBORO — Lowell Vernon Mohr, 88, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2019, at his residence with his wife and best furry friend at his side.
Lowell had been a coal miner at Monterey Coal. He had also been a laborer.
He was a United States Coast Guard veteran.
Lowell was a charter member of the Marion Knights of Columbus and had served as Past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the UMWA.
He was born June 17, 1930, in Conant, the son of William and Cleta (Berg) Mohr.
He married Geraldine (Donoghue) Pinski on April 2, 2001, in Paducah, Kentucky and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Murphysboro; two sons, Terry Mohr and wife, Vicki, of Carbondale, and Dennis Mohr and wife, Cindy of Marion; three stepchildren, Jerry Pinski of Franklin, Tennessee, Tom Pinski and wife, Glenda of Walshville, and Robert Pinski of Murphysboro; sisters-in-law, Sharon Horton, Patricia Moore, and Kathy Randolph; brother-in-law, Bill Donoghue and wife, Patsy; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandchild, Lucas Pinski; and sister-in-law, Margaret Mesmore.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, in Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Sister Rachael Castilla officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Knights of Columbus will be conducting a service on Thursday evening. Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery in Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion.
