MAKANDA — Mae McGee, 88, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019, in Manor Court of Carbondale.
She was born Jan. 1, 1931, to Dallas and Margaret (Brewer) Holder in Makanda.
Mae married Lowell McGee on July 9, 1949. They were nearing 70 years of marriage.
She had worked for Unity Point School for more than 20 years as a cook.
She was a member of Union Hill Christian Church.
She loved camping, hiking, boating and traveling. She taught a lot of kids to ski. Her greatest joy was spending time with her "grandkids."
Mae is survived by her husband, Lowell McGee of Makanda; two sons, Roger (Marla) McGee of Louisville, Kentucky, and Dennis (Julia) McGee of Clarksville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Mandi Guthrie and Valerie Sagers, both of Louisville, Kentucky; Jeremy McGee of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Christy Tarver of Thompson, Georgia; seven great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Margaret O'Hara, Dallas Holder, Pearl Jones, Maggie Forby, Leona Forby and Erma Lindsey; and a grandson, Matthew McGee.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, in Murdale Gardens of Memory, with the Revs. Benjamin Tarver and Robert Sagers officiating. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at stjude.org.
