AVA — Michael L. “Mike” Dagner, 73, passed away at 2:48 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Michael was born March 4, 1946, in Ava, the son of William Louis and Dorothy Eileen (Browder) Dagner.
Mike was in the National Guard during the 1960s.
He married Judy A. Morris, on June 18, 1966, in Murphysboro and they shared nearly 46 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on May 7, 2012.
Mike was a retired Engineer from the Union Pacific Railroad, and was a member of the Transportation Union.

Mike is survived by his children, Michael (Angie) Dagner of Percy, Scott (Cece) Dagner of Cutler, Tammy (Doug) Ehlers of Ava; six grandchildren, Megan (Caleb) Hertter, PVT Nicholas Ehlers, Kolten Dagner, Logan (Tori) Dagner, Taylor (Zachary) Dagner and Ray Dagner; two great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mary (Troy) Compton of Murphysboro.
Mr. Dagner was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Services will be at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 2, in Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava, with Tina Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
