METROPOLIS — Michael W. Betts, 70, of Metropolis, formerly of Cairo, died at 2:07 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at his home.
He was born April 28, 1948, in Cypress, is the son of Harold and Norma (Wallace) Betts.
He married Vicki Quigley on Feb. 5, 1972.
Mike was a native of Cairo. He was a man who loved to fish, listen to music, sing and play his steel guitar. He enjoyed spending time with his family including his loving wife and best friend, Vicki. Mike was known for his quick wit and as a faithful friend. He retired from the Iron Workers Union but was also an able minister of the gospel spending many of his adult years sharing the faith.
Mike is survived by his wife, Vicki Betts of Metropolis; sons, Mike (Kelley) Betts of London, England, Rob (Sarah) Betts of Paducah, Kentucky; daughter, Melissa Taylor of McDonough, Georgia; granddaughters, Melissa (Christopher) Chappell, Allie Betts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Abbie Grace Betts of Paducah, Kentucky; grandsons, Kaleb Betts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brady Betts of Paducah, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Brynlee Grace Chappell and John Michael Chappell, both of Decatur; mother, Norma (Richard) Farris of East Cape; sisters, Marilyn (Ronnie) Ashworth of East Cape, Debbie (Mike) Penrod of Southern Illinois, Becky (Jeff) Betts of Colorado, Lisa (Tom) Hayes of Cross Plains, Tennessee; numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Betts. Visitation for Michael W. Betts will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 30, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms. Memorial services will be at noon Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Rob Betts and Mike Betts officiating. A private graveside will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Transfusion Ministries Missionary Work and will be accepted at the funeral home.
